Ken Zhu’s 1st romantic lead role Monday, January 26, 2004 Philippine Star Combining the appeal of Meteor Garden and the classic mood of Somewhere In Time is a full-length feature that proves love is timeless and knows no boundaries. Titled Sky of Love, it features Ken Zhu of F4 in his first romantic solo lead as a present-day college freshman who developed an unusual relationship with a beautiful woman from another period. 20 years apart. The role perfectly fits Ken's pop star image being adored by his own legion of fans. "This is a great start in the movies," says Ken. "I can readily be proud of this because it has a good story and direction. Besides, I had a wonderful time with my co-stars during the shoot. My F4 colleagues say I'm lucky to have a film like this. And audiences will be surprised by the outcome of my performance." The movie tells the story of two people from different times, two decades in between. Wide-eyed optimist Xiao-Jia, a third year university student, stumbles across a broken shortwave radio while stealing glances at a handsome man she subsequently falls in love with. But she and her best friend share the same affection for the young man, who seems to reciprocate her feelings. One night, while fiddling with the broken radio, she ends up talking to Wen Jia-Hui, a cynical freshman from the same university. After some easy banter on-air, they decide to meet at the school foyer at 2p.m. the following day. But they both find themselves stood up by the other – she standing in the blazing heat of the sun for an hour, he in the pouring rain, completely soaked. It turns out that it was really nobody’s fault except that she is in the year 1983, he in 2003! Xiao-Jia and Jia-Hui are brought together by the machine that allows them to talk despite the many years that separate them. After exchanging caustic remarks, they will be lovers. But how can that be? They’re in the same world, yes, but not in the same period of time! With theme song sung by Ken Zhu, Sky of love also stars Gigi Leung as Xiao-Jia. Directed by Teng Hua Tao, it is a pre-Valentine presentation from first films. UPDATED VERSION ZZ makes a new year's dish and gets 100% ZZ, who rarely is in the kitchen, learning how to make some New Year's dishes, how would it turn out? It's thought that once ZZ enters the kitchen he'll be very busy. But his cooking skills is not proficient, however, once he picks things up easily. This day ZZ came to Taipei kai sa restaurant's dynasty dining-hall. He was learning how to cook some dishes with HK chef Huo Zhi Xiong. After Chef Huo knew that ZZ is best at making "dan bao fan" (egg rice?) he guided ZZ, "To learn how to make New Year's dishes, you first have to learn the most basics, start from washing the food." ZZ said that he usually cooks pao mian in the kitchen. He proudly said,"The egg rice you buy outside don't have enough rice. When I do it myself, I can added as much as I want, eating until I'm full."To ZZ, making New Year's dishes is any unimaginable thing. He said, "New Years dishes are usually done by my mom, I've never thought of making any. But it's rare that I am able to learn with a chef. It's not a bad experience." Today, the 2 dishes ZZ learned were hao huang dong gu ba bao yu (some type of abalone with mushrooms) and fa cai bai guo qing gang cai. In the chef's eyes, these 2 dishes are the most basic ones, easy to make and tastes good. The first thing ZZ did when he entered the kitchen was wash the food. Then he watched the cook mix the sauce. ZZ is very curious regarding the name of hao huang dong gu ba bao yu. When he was washing the mushroom he said,"The mushrooms looks like the sun, therefore this dish indicates the meanig of xu ri dong sheng." Because the cook personally did it himself, ZZ stood at one side and watched closely and gained some knowledge. Chef Huo saw that ZZ was learning with a lot of heart so he decided to give the "zhuang pan bai cai" (arranging the food on the plate?) responsiblity to ZZ. On the menu he displayed abalone and mushroom like a serious little student. When the 2nd dish was presented, Chef Huo was even more at ease, giving ZZ the duty of chao qing gang cai. Once ZZ saw that this is an opportunity that he shouldn't pass, he immediately he displayed a surpassing chef jia shu, turning up the fire and frying, but when he was flipping it, it flew onto the ground. The people around him cracked up. ZZ laughing scolded, "The food is disobedient." In the end the chef at the side gave ZZ a lot of face, boasting that ZZ's frying food movement deserved a 100%. ZZ loves to eat but as for making food trciks he doesn't understand that well. Chef Huo asked him to gou qian, hearing it for half the day, he didn't clearly understand what guo qian is. He said, "O, you are talking about adding tai ba fen ah." (something about white powder). Guo qian finishes and zheng dao cai also was successfully accomplish. The ZZ, who learned too dishes in one day, appeared very pleased and showed a happy expression. He said, "So I am capable of cooking such good New Years dishes!" Info last yr Jan 2003 in MTV ASIA MTV Asia is thrilled to announce that Asian superstars including F4 from Taiwan, Shaan from India and Ella from Malaysia will be performing at the 2003 MTV Asia Awards. They will be sharing the stage with previously announced performers Missy Elliott, Avril Lavigne and Nick Carter at the Singapore Indoor Stadium on January 24, 2003. Hosted by CoCo Lee and Shaggy, the pan-regional awards show is set to stun the audience with a superstar lineup and magical live performances fusing the best of East and West. Top Asian celebrities adding to the glittering list of presenters include, Aishwarya Rai, David Tao, D2B, He Yao Sun, Ogie Alcasid, Palmy, Parokya Ni Edgar, Regine Velasquez, Silly Fools, Slapshock and Urban Xchange. They join previously announced international presenters Suede, Atomic Kitten and Linkin Park members Chester Bennington and Joe Hahn, with more performers and presenters still to be announced. F4, Taiwan’s hottest quartet, have been hogging the headlines and capturing hearts across Asia since their Meteor Garden days. Made up of Jerry Yen, Vic Zhou, Ken Zhu and Vanness Wu, F4 has been compared to Japan’s ultra-successful SMAP, and it is not hard to see the connection, with the success of both the band’s collective success, as well as their individual success in the fields of singing and acting. The guys are sure to cause hearts to flutter when they take to the stage at the MTV Asia Awards. India’s Shaan is a self-taught musician who has never received any formal training, but music must run in his blood as his father is the late renowned composer Manas Mukherjee. Shaan started out as a child singer for ad jingles, but moved on to singing remixes and cover versions when he grew older. Establishing himself as a solo artist was the logical next step, and Shaan proved to be a darling amongst critics and fans alike with his albums and foray into singing for Hindi films. Favourite Music Artist - Malaysia nominee, Ella will also be kicking up a storm on stage with her performance at the Awards. Ella released her first solo album way back in 1988, winning more and more fans as the years (and albums) went by. She is also the first female artist in Malaysia to secure album sales of more than 350,000 units, and has even secured a spot in the Malaysia Book of Records for Most Albums Sold by a Female Artist. She will no doubt be gathering more fans when she appears at the MTV Asia Awards on January 24th. Joining the list of presenters is Taiwan’s R&B star, David Tao, who after a hiatus, was back with a roar in 2002 with critically acclaimed album, Black Tangerine. Upping the glam factor of the evening will be Indian actress and former Miss World, Aishwarya Rai who will be presenting an award as well. Singapore’s very own He Yao Sun and Urban Xchange, both first-time nominees at the MTV Asia Awards, have also confirmed their roles as presenters. Joining the list of presenters also are Philippine music veterans Ogie Alcasid, Regine Velasquez, Parokya Ni Edgar and Slapshock as well as Thailand’s D2B, Silly Fools and Palmy who are all vying for the respective local Favourite Music Artist award. The MTV Asia Awards is the only pan-regional event of its kind in Asia that recognises and pays homage to international and local music talents. A total of 19 awards will be presented during the show to artists and talent voted by viewers across the region, making the event one that truly gives MTV viewers a voice on what they want. Due to the overwhelming voting response received to date, MTV Asia will be extending the online voting period from 31 December 2002 to 15 January 2003. Filmed before a live audience of over 7000 music lovers and broadcast to over 150 million homes in Asia, the event is set to bring the celebration of music in Asia to a brand new level. Ken Zhu is about to film a new drama, "Tian Kong Zhi Cheng" (City in the Sky), in China in March. He will be working with Michelle Saram in an intense amour. This is manager Angie Cai's first time filming a drama in China so there are many pressures. Regarding the time when Michelle Saram filmed "Meteor Garden II" being scolded on the internet as a "fei yong" (something like Philippine servant.?), Angie said, "Taiwan spectators cannot accept that fact of another girl snatching Dao Ming Si. However, Michelle is a hardworking and devoted actress, she should be given a chance." Zai Zai, Vic Zhou, accepted "Mars" for $200,000 an episode. Yesterday Ken Zhu also accepted "City of the Sky." Angie revealed, on the news of developing towards China, that both parties have already sign a contract. Ken will be portraying as a country geography magazine photographer. Angie said, "Originally we were going to let Michelle choose, but the television company's people liked Michelle the moment they saw her. Michelle is amerasian so portraying as a Tai girl of the minority nationality is very suitable." Michelle once portrayed as Ye Sha, a third party, in "Meteor Garden II" and was bombarded miserably on the internet with people saying that she's obscene with dark skin, like a Philippine servant. This time she'll be in "City in the Sky" with Ken. Angie has a lot of confidence, "She's very popular in Xing Ma. The role she plays in a drama doesn't represent that's how she really is in real life. Taiwan spectators won't be so narrow-minded." Angie produced "Meteor Garden" and F4's miracle. Filming in China for the first time she said, "There's some pressure. One episode's manufacturing costs is approximately $2,000,000. We project half, they take the China copyright, and the overseas copyright is ours. Both sides' collaboration will be more and more frequent. I believe that people are benevolent, opinionated situations will not effect each other's exchange." Regarding "Meteor Garden" being banned in China, Angie joked, "Because of the ban, F4 is popular. Actually I heard that it wasn't banned, just that it's best that it's not broadcasted. In the beginning there is some plots on hitting teachers which isn't good. I believe that each area's policies are different. We should respect each other." Angie laughing said, "China's TV dramas can't have plots containing sex, homosexuality, porn, and violence. My drama doesn't have these; it's about love between people. Only once, when discussing the script, they said that public security is the country's police so they can't be sad as bad people." ZZ Refuses to Avoid Seeing a Close Friend
Vic Chou had a photo secretly taken with Xu Wei Lun at a pub by Taiwan's media. Yesterday when ZZ attended a book show (forgot the word in English), ZZ describes Xu Wei Lun as "good friend" and that they would occasionally eat dinner, sing kareoke, which is what normal friends would do. ZZ honestly says that he would not avoid Xu Wei Lun because of the rumours, "There is no who chases who between us and we wouldn't not avoid each other because of rumours. Friends wouldn't stay away each other because of these little things." When ask if he would worry about Xu Wei Lun's boyfriend, Li Wei, being unhappy, ZZ says, "I am not that familiar with Li Wei, but if we do meet, I would probably greet him."
