Yan said he himself has been making movies while another member, Vanness Wu, has been busy with his singing career. "I've answered this questions a couple of times already," Yan said of F4's reported disbanding. "We have not disbanded," he maintained. "Given the right movie, we'll gladly work together again." He said he hoped to have his own concert in Manila, too. F4 has been described as "the biggest boy band in Asia." He will be back on Nov. 28 with "Meteor Garden" costar Vic Zhou for a concert at The Fort Open Field sponsored by ABS-CBN. Yan said he was grateful for the warm welcome given to him by Bench and his Filipino fans. "I've had many ups and downs since I joined the entertainment industry years ago," he said and triggered another round of screams when he added, "It comforts me to see all my fans here." Bench gave away over a hundred access passes to fans and Bench customers through its "Crazy 4 Jerry?" on-line promo. "All the hassle of joining was worth it," said die-hard "Meteor Garden" fan Toni David. "I was able to take pictures of Jerry." Anchor Pia Guanio instructed local media to ask only questions about Yan's Bench endorsement and not about "anything too personal." DAO SHALL RETURN. Yan, with co-F4 Vic Zhou, will return to Manila for a concert at The Fort on Nov. 29. Click to zoom "If you still want to ask him whether he has a girlfriend, ask at your own risk," said Guanio. "I suggest that you just follow these simple rules. You only get to ask one question each." But the local media people were persistent, asking Yan what he thought of President Macapagal and Filipino women, and the qualities he would look for in a girlfriend. "The President is nice," Yan said. "I found her to be a very good person, an intellectual. I'm happy to have met her and the children." Of his patron, Chan, Yan said in halting English, "He's a nice guy. Every time I see him, he smiles." Orphans from the Asilo de San Vicente de Paul and Caritas, cancer patients from the Philippine General Hospital and indigent children receiving support from First Gentleman Mike Arroyo were allowed to join the President and Yan during the courtesy call last Thursday. Beauty stylist Ricky Reyes also brought some children beneficiaries of his charity foundation. "I see many beautiful Filipinas around," Yan said. "I find Filipino women very lively. That's what I like most about them." Yan is finishing his first solo album, which Sony Music Philippines will release early next year. He is reportedly also set to do a movie for Star Cinema early next year. Last August, ABS-CBN showed "Love Scar," which starred Yan and Taiwanese actress Karen Mok.

Tight security and no personal questions Clothier Bench formally introduces new endorser No personal questions," this was a restriction given during the Bench press conference for Taiwanese heartthrob Jerry Yan, the local clothing brand's newest image model. The star of the popular TV soap opera Meteor Garden and member of the boy band F4, was in Manila for two days to launch the clothing brand's latest advertising campaign.
TAIWANESE SINGER-ACTOR and new Bench endorser Jerry Yan
On Thursday, the tarmac at NAIA Terminal 2 was cordoned-off for the arrival of Mr. Yan. Only airport photographers were allowed wait in the area. Guards in business suits and dark glasses efficiently patrolled the area to ensure the safety of the Taiwanese actor. Due to the rain that morning, Mr. Yan had to board a van in order to get to the Bench helicopter which was waiting for him at the NAIA tarmac.
On his second day in the Philippine, a press conference was held at Le Pavillion in Pasay City, where the endorser was formally presented to the local media. Although Bench President Ben Chan refuses to disclose the exact figures involved, the buzz is that Mr. Yan was reportedly paid a whopping PhP14 million for the 16-month contract.
Mr. Chan chose the Meteor Garden star to serve as the new Bench endorser primarily because of his "universal charm."
"His charisma crosses different sectors of society. He is famous, clean, muscular and a delight to dress up. His popularity is phenomenal. During the (photo) shoot in Hong Kong we had to hire a van with curtains so that he will not be recognized," he said. Mr. Yan's pictorial for the campaign took place last September in Hong Kong where he was shooting the movie The Magic Chef with singer-actor Andy Lau.
The press was given special passports for the press conference. Only a few fans were allowed inside the venue. Shortly before 11 a.m., the Bench helicopter carrying Mr. Yan landed a few meters away from the venue. The landing strip was enclosed by container vans and the whole place was filled with guards. BusinessWorld was told that these were the same guards utilized during the recent visit of US President George W. Bush.
Big video screens were installed inside the venue so the press could witness the chopper's landing, including the rolling of the red carpet which was a few inches short. Thus Mr. Yan had to walk his first few steps on bare soil, before meeting Mr. Chan on the red carpet.
Before entering the venue, Mr. Yan was asked to go onstage to greet his fans who had assembled as early as 6 a.m. The Taiwanese actor waved, flashed his killer smile and said "mahhhhhal koh kah-yoh." Of course, his fans went wild.
Inside the venue, loud applause welcomed Mr. Yan as he gamely posed for the local photographers wearing his "love ko bench" shirt. The actor speaks very little English, thus the whole question and answer portion of the press conference was dependent on his interpreter.
"I'm glad and happy to meet all of you. I hope I'll have a chance to have a concert here," Mr. Yan said in Mandarin.
A casual dresser, the actor said that he likes clothes that are very comfortable.
"I am happy to be a Bench model. I use Bench because I feel very comfortable with it. It's also very simple and doesn't get out of fashion and you can wear it anytime."
He added that he particularly like the brand's sleeveless shirts.
Despite his lean muscular physique which these kinds of shirts would show off, Mr. Yan says that he doesn't follow any kind of diet. "I eat anything, but I play a lot of ball games, I like basketball."
As to the question of what piece of Bench clothing he wears all the time, he naughtily answered "underwear." And when asked if he was willing to pose wearing the brand's signature underwear, he happily answered "I hope so." This remark drove the audience wild.
On his first day in Manila, the actor had a chance to meet President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo in Malacañang.
"I think the President is a very good person and she is intellectual. I am also very happy she let me meet the children cancer patients and the orphans. They are very cute."
Aside from modeling and doing movies, the 27-year-old actor-model is also set to launch his solo album early next year under the Sony label. He likes listening to jazz and hip-hop music.
"It depends on my mood. I don't have a favorite artist, but I think the best is F4." He also made it clear that F4, his boy band, has not disbanded. "We are just doing like doing different things. I like shoot movies and do television shows. Vanness likes to do concerts. But if a good offer comes for a movie or a television show, we will be together again," he said. -- Teresa Defensor

A closer look at Jerry Yan By Candy S. Manaloto The weather rose to fever pitch last Nov. 7 as the hottest member of the phenomenal Taiwanese boy band, F4, paid a rare visit to Manila. As the newest face and body of Bench, Jerry Yan (a.k.a. Dao Ming Si of the hit show Meteor Garden) was in town to personally endorse the clothing line to his millions of (screaming) fans in the Philippines. Le Pavillion along Roxas Blvd. was already full with excited guests, members of the media and some winners of the “Meet and Greet Jerry Yan” promo as early as 10 a.m. Bench has organized a Press Day last Friday to give his fans and the media a chance to get a glimpse of the real Jerry Yan, know his impression of the Filipino people, and his thoughts about being the most celebrated model of Bench. At exactly 10:50 a.m., a chopper carrying Jerry landed on the heavily guarded and barricaded area of Le Pavillion amidst the deafening sound of screams from fans who had waited outside hoping to see the 26–year–old charmer. Before proceeding to the press conference, Jerry Yan, accompanied by Bench bigwig Ben Chan, stopped by and gave his endearing audience a short but heartwarming message. “Mahal ko kayo!,” said Jerry Yan in his noticeably Chinese accent. Inside Le Pavillion, the excitement could no longer be contained. Wearing a simple white shirt with a print “Bench is F4ever” and jeans, Jerry Yan created a sudden uproar as he mounted the stage. The Jerry Yan in front of us was far from the arrogant and spoiled rich kid that we watch in the daily Chinovela. This former model–turned–superstar is bereft of any star complex as he gamely answered almost all questions, from general queries such as his impressions on Filipino women to more personal and hot questions like his preference on underwear. With the help of an interpreter, Jerry Yan revealed his “other side” to the audience — the Jerry Yan who has a soft spot for kids and likes to take care of animals, the sports buff who engages in basketball to keep him fit, and the Jerry Yan who finds the “vivaciousness” of Filipinas as one of their appealing qualities. Jerry, in his shy voice, relayed to his Filipino fans that he was glad to be in the Philippines and hopes to have a real concert in Manila. When asked about how does he feel to be treated like a “king,” Jerry received a resounding applause with his answer: “I don’t feel like a king. I just treasure the experience (of being a superstar),” humbly remarked Jerry. He also believes that he has the determination which has brought him to where he is right now. But even the shy and reserved Jerry was not spared from naughty questions. One writer boldly asked the F4 leader if he would, in the future, model for Bench underwear to which Jerry readily answered: “I hope so.” The clincher came when somebody asked him what he prefers in underwear: boxers or briefs? It took Jerry a full minute to compose himself before he finally replied. “I like both. It depends…on my mood,” he said blushing before adding, “I like the underwear of Bench. It’s my favorite piece because I can wear it anytime,” This guy who admits that he does not shop for his own clothes maintains that he is comfortable wearing a pair of jeans and shirt or with whatever people give him. This is the reason why he likes the shirts of Bench because it perfectly embodies his personal fashion statement. “I like the clothes of Bench. They are simple, classic and does not go out of style. They are also comfortable to wear,” noted Jerry, said to be the most sensitive and serious guy of F4. With the overwhelming reception given to Jerry Yan by his Filipino fans, Ben Chan has indeed made the right choice in picking him as the new face of Bench. Not only does he have the face and body to boot, but he also has the charm that never fails to warm the hearts of every Filipino. www.mb.com.ph

Nov 13,2003 Jerry just took the 3:10pm (HK time) flight from HK to Beijing. He firstly flew from Taiwan to Hk, then to Beijing (there is no direct flight from Taiwan to Beijing). He wore sunglasses, black cap(?), jacket, and jeans. At the waiting room, more than 10 security guards were with him (learned the lesson?). According to fans, he was in a pretty good mood. He read newspapers and secretly glanced at fans. Haha... I know that a lot of fans from HK, Taiwan, and Thailand have arrived at/are going to Beijing today. Good luck to all of them. According to fans in Beijing, it is foggy there today and it seems like it may snow soon.

Yesterday, Jerry took the pictures for the magazine Esquire (Hk version) and some fans said that it would be released in January. Photos on Esquire are famous of being classy. Must buy. The staff said when Jerry took pictures, even the big boss of the magazine visited the site. This is the first time the big boss visits when stars take pictures for the magazine. In October, Zai took the pictures for this magazine and the results were very good. Zai looked very different and handsome. Zai's photos were from the same photographer who took Bench's photos. I wonder whether the same photographer took Jerry's pictures. If it was the same, really nice, as I like Bench's posters a lot.
After taking the photos, Jerry took the flight and went back to Taiwan last night.
Yestersay, another good news was that the Central Channel in China which is the official voice of the Chinese government and which banned Meteor Garden 1 from broadcasting in China two years ago due to bad influence on teenagers (but pirated copies were all over) gave compliment to Jerry for the first time. According to the host, after seeing Jerry at the Beijing press conference, they have changed their impression on Jerry totally. The host said that Jerry did not have the look only, but also had ideas and insights. Hoho... Jerry's sincerity has finally impressed those people who used to disapprove F4 just because their outstanding appearance.

Sorry, just don't know where to post it.
I noticed that Jerry and Vic's songs are not in the top 20 of MYX. I wonder why!!!!!
Can't we make them in the top 20, possibly top 1 as what was done during Vaness and Ken's visit here in the Phils?
Just wondering!!!!

angelfriend Here is a part of the article in Yes! Magazine about Jerry
“F4 Fever” Source: Yes! Magazine (Dec.2003) Written and Produced by: Blaise C. Gacoscos Reasearched by: Arlene Anne L. Wong and Jane T. Yugioksing
“In its issue of April 22, 2002, Time Magazine reported that F4 member were seen as ideal prospective husbands in Taiwan, where the boyband was formed back in February 2001. The newsmagazine reported that 93 percent of the married couples admitted that they were “unhappy” with their married life. Angie Chai, Comic Productions’ general manager and creator of F4, was quoted as saying: “F4 are so popular because women cannot find romance in real life.”
“Forget the talent. The members of the Taiwanese boyband F4, who starred i8n the phenomenal TV hit series “Meteor Garden,” sing and act just like the rest of us. But why are they causing such a pandemonium among millions of women all over Asia? The answer is obvious: they’re drop-dead gorgeous!”
JERRY YAN
“ My ideal girl is someone who exemplifies the traditional Chinese virtue of xiaosun or filial piety. I want to find a girl who can take good care of my mother, a woman who will share my great love for my mother.”
LIAO YANG ZHENG IS HIS REAL NAME, YAN Chen Xu is his Chinese screen name, Jerry Yan is the screen name by which he is known outside Taiwan, but he is still better known in these parts as Dao Ming Si, the characters he played in the chinovela “Meteor Garden”. At 26, he is no doubt the biggest star of F4, but Jerry himself thinks not. The pop sensation says in an interview with Filipino journalist Wilson Lee Flores: “I don’t really feel like I’m a big star. I’m just an ordinary young person like most of may fans – with simple tastes, a simple lifestyle, very ordinary dreams and hopes.”
Irene Tan Luy, cousin of Bryan Chua of Bench, is quoted by Wilson as saying: “Jerry Yan is very different from his Dao Ming Si character because he is actually a shy, kind-hearted person and a filial son to his mother. Did you know that his father has already died? He told me that he was saving up his earnings to give his beloved mother a nice house. He comes from an ordinary family. He is not rich like Dao Ming Si.”
Jerry debuts in the film Magic Kitchen, the story of an assistant cook (Jerry) who falls in love with the head chef (played by Hong Kong’s box-office star Sammi Cheng). The movie is set to premiere worldwide on Chinese New Year. At press time, it had not been decided which one of the lead stars would get to sing the movie’s theme song, but Jerry’s fans will be glad to know that their idol will definitely be crooning one song.
Publicly stint or not, here are two of Jerry’s rumoured girlfriends:
Sammi Cheng: Jerry’s Magic Kitchen co-star. The grapevine has it that Sammi, who is four-years older than Jerry, “requested” the producer to get Jerry as her leading man. She evn “lowered” her talent fee to get him on board.
Zhang Jia Xuan: Actress, and alleged by Hong Kong’s Dong Fang Ri Bao (June 15, 2003) to be the daughter of a former Taiwanese Mafia. She and Jerry have been spotted playing billiards. Hong Kong’s Apple Daily (June 21) also reported that Jerry would be Jia Xuan’s ideal partner, but she’s afraid that “dating such a famous person, there would be too much pressure.” Jerry denies the rumor completely.
· The Latest Bench Model, Jerry Yan, came to Manila last November 7 to promote the clothing line. The original plan was to sign up F4 member Vic Zhou, but Bench owner Ben Chan chose Jerry instead.

thanks to leehom.conforums for this news.... -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Translation of Jerry's interview clips on Magic Kitchen from now.com Thank www.yanchengxu.net for the clips Talking about Mama In my childhood, my feeling towards a kitchen is my mom. It is a view of my mom's back when she was cooking something. When I was a child, I was not grateful. I thought that the food cooked by my mom were not delicious. But now, when I think about it, I feel that those are the most precious things. Actually, delicious or not is another issue. Instead, the thought and feeling from which such food were made is the most touching. When I was in Hong Kong for shooting this film, I called my mom when I had time. In the past, when I had been in Taiwan and had had some problems, my most impressed thing is that my mom had told me that if I feel that I am really not happy, just don't do it. Therefore, as I feel that shooting this film, I am so happy, I have always told her that I feel that the people here are so nice, I am so happy coming to work here. At home, my mom makes soup. After the meal, I like to have soup. This is because I feel very comfortable after having a hot soup. It is like the whole body becomes very warm. My mom is a hard-working and thrifty person. Now most of the time, I am working outside. I rarely come back home. Every time I am back home, my mom cooks many dishes, makes soup, etc. I feel that this kind of feeling is very warm and happy. To me, home is really the warmest place. When there was an earthquake in Taiwan, our walls were cracked and have not yet been repaired. Therefore, there are many people asking us whether we do not fear. I have heard my mom said that there was once she was sleeping, then there was an earthquake, she herself could run to the school's field. She dare not to be at home. We have an refrigerator at home. It has been there since I was a child, maybe it is more than twenty years old. Now it is shorter than me and also rusted. But we get used to it. When I am back home and see the things at home, I think about my life during childhood. My mom has not often watched movies. This is because she feels that the subtitle moves too fast. She must read them but she reads very slowly while the subtitle changes very quickly. Therefore, there is no way for her to understand them. Therefore, when the time comes (i.e. when this movie is on theater), I will help her translate. If there is a chance, I will secretly bring her to the theater. As this is my first movie, I wish my mom can share such feeling with me. Talking about fans Yes, I have to thank so many friends, who, when I am in Hong Kong, wait for me downstairs every day, follow me whereever I go. They make me very touched. Yesterday, there was a moment they almost made me cry. They were at a side shouting all the way, like can't let you leave, or something like that. I felt that I was also not willing to leave. Why do I call them "Friends"? Actually, I hope that I can get closest to them. Not like blocking, do you understand? For example, like when I was in the Autograph session in Hong Kong. Actually, I hoped that I could sincerely meet and shake hand with them, not just gave an autograph. For giving an autograph, I have no way to see or talk to the person I am giving. Probably, only one or two sentences can make them very happy. That's why I don't like an autograph session. If I am really asked to hold an autograph session, I will have no time to see you, to talk to you even one sentence like "how are you?". Do you know? This is, actually, what I would like to do the most. every time I've been to Hong Kong, I have seen 200-300 people. Many people ask me whether I am angry of being grabbed, being bumped. I tell the truth I am more than happy. Sometimes, I have to get into a car in just a moment. In my mind, I hope that I can take all the letters from everyone, take all the gifts from everyone. This is because I feel that every one, who came to the airport, just want to meet me, to see me. So why I don't I.... for example, let them stand on a side, then I can walk passing almost everyone, like this. It should not be a scene that everyone blocks, squeezes, and etc. Maybe I cannot do what I would like to do right away. This is because the company also has its own rules. They probably do not like people to take me a photo or something. But, I also feel that the company has its standpoint and difficulty. I have no way to tell them. But, I hope that I can do more. At least there are actually some people being impressed from seeing what I and them (i.e. fans) are doing to each other. However, the most fearful thing to me is that so many people always ask me every time we meet that.. "Do you know what is my name?", "Do you remember me who last time give you...?". Sometimes when being asked, I would not like to answer because I know that many people may feel ...for example, assuming today there are so many people, ok, I know who you are, then, ok, I speak out. There could be some people more squeezing forward or feeling unhappy. I also don't know what I should do. I can just only say I see all of you, nod, smile to you or greet, something like that. More than this, I really don't know what I should do. I have heard too much. Someone told me that I cannot treat anybody too well or I cannot do this and that. This is because they (who I treat too well) may be repelled or be what and what. But, I feel that if we are all friends, that should not be such thing happens. Talking about love During my school years? I liked to secretly love a girl. But, I could not tell her. I saw her then I liked her. Sometimes I could see her all the day, I felt happy, that kind of feeling. Luckily, that kind of feeling can be brought into this movie, I feel that it is so cute. That kind of feeling? Sometimes sad, sometimes sweet. For example, I saw Sammi and Andy being together, being sweet to each other. Sometimes, there are also be that they have problem. Then, Sammi would shout at me, throw a tantrum to me. I would feel wronged. I also don't know. I feel that maybe I am that kind of person i.e. can only stay beside her and look after her silently. Sometimes, she can do this and that to me, but I still put my effort. Actually, i feel that that kind of feeling is so great. I don't know. I have one very strange personality i.e. there are many times I am fond of a girl but I cannot express. I do not even think telling her. I feel that for liking her, it is not necessary to stay with her. For example, when I was a student, she was in my neighbourhood. Every day she would came out, then I would see her, then would be very happy. Happiness cannot be measured by how much you pay for or in material term. It is a kind of feeling. I feel that that kind of feeling is the truest and the purest. Do you understand my meaning? Like now, I am in a society. To have such a feeling is very difficult, especially, in the entertainment circle. Every thing is realistic and it is so difficult to be like that in the school years. Anyway, I still like the feeling of the one who secretly loves somebody. Until now, I still have an impression. Like, when I went to the class, then I saw her, I could secretly smile to myself. Then my friends besides me said that I was an idiot, why I suddenly smiled so happily. But, I could not tell anyone who I liked. I just kept in my mind. Do I believe in love fate? Um..well..well.. Actually, I'd rather not believe this kind of thing. Actually, in the past, I..used to be dumped before, so i just feel that maybe I have not yet meet the right person for me. I feel that to like somebody, there must be no me or you, like who give more or who give less? I feel that if you meet the right one for you, then you treat her well, she should know.
