F4, Barbie fans unfazed by rains, pricey tickets
Despite the rain, thousands of F4 and Barbie Xu fans lined up for hours outside the Philippine Sports Arena (formerly Ultra) in Pasig City on Saturday for the The Event concert featuring members of the Taiwanese band and their lovely costar in the box-office telenovela Meteor Garden.
This, as the Eastern Police District deployed at least 150 police officers in the area, reportedly not only to prevent any violence by the crowd but also to protect from kidnappers the many rich Chinese Filipinos who were seen attending.
The F4 group has been stirring up a storm of fan devotion in the Philippines after they were introduced through their television drama Meteor Garden.
Giving the concert are F4 members Vanness Wu, who potrays the character Mei Tsuo in Meteor Garden and Ken Zuo, who has the role of Xi Men. With them is fellow drama actor Barbie, who plays Shan Cai in the TV series but is not a member of the F4 singing group.
Eastern police district head Chief Supt. Rolando Sacramento also directed his deputy for operations, Senior Supt. Pedro Nicolas, to strictly implement the “Oplan Sita,” which involves frisking fans and inspecting their bags.
Chaos reigned leading to the concert’s opening as many fans who had tickets found themselves arriving at their seats to find that other fans without tickets had already occupied them. Many fans decried the lack of crowd control and the general failure of the security guards to regulate the entry of fans to the venue. It was reported that the security guards outside had claimed that the security operations pertaining to the interior of the arena was allegedly not their responsibility. Many of the 60,000 fans were dissatisfied with the lack of order at the concert. C. Mocon
