daisy_mae: what your meteor sisters in the office shared with you is true. It's just a part of a series of stories shared by one who has worked in Taiwan for more than a decade now and a professed fan of Jerry & Barbie. We call her "Ate." Even if Jerry and Barbie are her favorites, she also likes Ken, Vic and Vanness. At first, she only admired Barbie, but after she met the two in the shooting of MG back in 2001, she vowed to support the two. This time, my friend was able to squeeze out from Ate so many more stories about our faves. She had already been attending some of the filming days of J&B way back in MG1. She also makes it a point to go to their live shows like mall tours and stuff. She also goes to Barbie’s gigs with her band in bars and lounges. I already posted last month the first part of "Ate's" stories. Here are the rest of what she'd shared:
Ate said that recently, Jerry appeared on the cover of a magazine. Ate sent her copy to her sister in the Philippines, thinking that she’ll still be able to buy a copy for herself but unfortunately, all the mags were sold out! That’s how popular he is.
Anyway, here’s a hodge-podge of everything that Ate shared about Jerry and Barbie…based from what she herself had witnessed, from her collection of videos of F4 and Barbie which were shown in Taiwan, and from other sources she had talked to:
-in one of the first mall tours of F4 for MG1, Barbie was not able to attend due to other commitments but that didn’t dampen the spirit of so many people who went to the mall to meet the F4. At that time, only Ken and Vanness were very confident in facing the mammoth crowd. Vic and Jerry were so overwhelmed that the former hid at first at the backstage. Jerry was deemed aloof at first, with the people not knowing that he was actually very nervous and scared at that time. But when it was his turn to speak and greet the fans, he explained to them that he was very happy to see them but they should be patient with him because he’s really not used to getting so much attention from so many people. At that time, MG1 has only been on air for 2 weeks so they were all surprised at the near pandemonium they created in the mall.
MG1
(from the behind-the-scenes/NG scenes/special scenes shown in Taiwan; others are from news reports)
-There was a scene in MG1 where the 4 guys were eating with Shan Cai. After the scene had been cut, the guys bought burgers from McDonald’s. Vanness bought 4 while Ken and Vic had 1 each. But Jerry bought 6! Barbie only got a salad for herself. Barbie had not finished eating yet when the director called the cast for a short briefing of the next scene. When she returned, she found her salad gone. She knew who ate it. It was Jerry again! When she asked him why he ate it, Jerry denied eating it and pointed to one of the crew. But the crew was quick to point back to Jerry. With a sheepish smile, he admitted to the “crime” (hehe) and he and Barbie just laughed about it. (Jerry has such an enormous appetite!)
-Many fans rejoiced when they learned that Barbie and Blue are not together anymore. According to Ate, it is true that Blue would often visit the filming of MG. In the meteor shower scene in episode 12, it was said that Blue requested some changes in the shooting of the kissing scene because the director originally wanted many close-up shots of the intimate scene. But Blue complained. The staff said that part of Blue’s jealousy could’ve stemmed from seeing Barbie and Jerry playing around (making fun of each other) when he arrived. Jerry didn’t appreciate the interference of Blue and neither did Barbie. Barbie talked to Blue and said that he should allow her to do whatever the director says because she and Jerry are both there as actors/professionals. But because of this incident with Blue, Jerry has become more careful with his scenes with Barbie. In episode 17 where DMS chased after SC who rode the bus with Ya Men, SC was supposed to go down the bus and run towards DMS. After they embrace, they were supposed to share a kiss. Jerry requested the director not to include the kissing scene anymore so as to avoid any complaints from Barbie’s boyfriend. Barbie told Blue about Jerry’s decision and Blue said that he didn’t complain but Barbie pointed out that he’s always been reacting that’s why Jerry saw it fit not to include the kiss anymore.
-Barbie’s mom didn’t like Blue either, because at one time, she called Blue and asked for her daughter’s whereabouts. She said that Barbie hasn’t been answering her cellphone. Blue was said to have talked back at the mother and said that she should just call Jerry because Barbie’s with him always. Barbie’s mother didn’t like his tone and this kind of statement coming from the boyfriend of her daughter. In one interview, she was asked to comment about the F4 and who she deems is the best boyfriend-material for Barbie. Vic, she said, is a friend of Barbie’s. She thinks Vic’s too young to be paired with her older daughter but would like it if paired with Xiao S. The mother sees Vanness as not ready yet for serious relationships. Ken, on the other hand is too mysterious for her. Jerry is her choice for Barbie. She knows that Jerry is the type of guy who loves his mother more than himself. Therefore, she knows he’ll be able to take care of Barbie. She knew this because there was one instance when she visited the set and Jerry approached her to exchange stories with her. Barbie’s mom appreciated Jerry’s openness about his life. As for Jerry’s mom, there was one interview where she commented that Barbie would be good for his son because she can understand the moods of Jerry.
-Jerry said that at first, he was intimidated with Barbie because she’s really frank. There was even a time when Barbie asked the wardrobe assistant why they had to dress up Jerry in such fashion (check out his outfits in early episodes). The assistant said that the role calls for flashy clothes while his hair had to look like the comic character.
-In an interview with Barbie, she admitted that her first crush among the F4 was Vanness Wu because he was always upbeat and had many stories to tell.
-From the taping of her entertainment show, Barbie would sometimes go straight to her MG taping. Since her wardrobe and make-up as part of the ASOS band are so much different from her Shan Cai role, the F4 would sometimes see her with her dark clothes and dark nail polish. Vanness would even call her a “witch”.

Ate observed that when Jerry and Barbie are together, they are sweet to each other. But when F3 are there with them, Jerry keeps a distance. In addition, she said that there is truth to the rumor that Ken courted Barbie during the early part of MG1. Barbie’s very secretive of her lovelife so the F4 didn’t know Blue at first. Ken knew about him only after Barbie informed him of her boyfriend.
--In Ate’s collection of tapes, part of that showed the bloopers of the cast in both MG1 and MG2 (these were shown in Taiwan but not part of the cds available in the Philippines). In the fire exit scene (MG1 episode 4), after DMS woke up feeling better after resting on Shan Cai’s lap, he was supposed to thank her with a kiss at the staircase. The director told her to push him but when she kicked him, she inadvertently kicked hard which made Jerry hit his head on the wall. Jerry teasingly asked Barbie why she had to kick him so hard. She embraced him and said sorry. Then when they re-took the scene, Jerry made a sudden move towards her that it made Barbie hit her head this time. The both of them laughed, and this time, it was Barbie who teased Jerry and asked him if he was taking a ‘revenge’ on her.
-As for their kissing scene, it has been reported that it took 20 minutes to film. We know that Jerry was very nervous during the shooting. Aside from forgetting his lines, they were laughing at Jerry because in many instances, he didn’t know where to put Shan Cai’s hand while kissing her. In some occasions, he would put Barbie’s hand on his chest or he would put his hand on her cheek. Since he had a big hand, it would easily cover her face so the director would say “ CUT!” again. They all had a field day teasing and laughing at Jerry for being so nervous at that moment.
-The actress who played DMS’ sister was shown on the tape having a ball with the F4 because they were always laughing along with Barbie and Ou Ding Xing (Qing He). They were like kids having fun on the set that’s why so many scenes were repeatedly filmed.
-In an episode in MG1 that took place in the Dao Ming mansion (this was after the basketball game) Jerry felt very tired already so he decided to take a nap while the F3 plus Barbie were being filmed for the scene where Mei Zhuo and Xi Men pulled Lei and Shan Cai from the dining table towards the room. Since this scene was not continuously filmed, right after the scene where Xi Men pulled Shan Cai was taken, Ken continued to pull Barbie then pushed her towards the sleeping Jerry who was lying on the sofa. Jerry was awakened and he thought at first that it was part of a scene that the director wanted to add to the script. Ken and the rest were laughing hard. Barbie of course was embarrassed.
-By the way, after the basketball scene was taken inside the gym, Ou Di decided to go home already. F4, Barbie and DMS’s sister stayed around to play ball. Jerry changed his clothes to blue because he and Vic were partners as opposed to the remaining duo, Ken and Vanness who were in yellow. When their game was about to start, Barbie insisted that she be included in the game. But the F4 told her that she didn’t know how to play. Barbie did not relent so they decided to include her. The actress portraying DMS’ sister kept on laughing at them because the F4 were making fun of Barbie. She was only asked to pass and not to shoot. Even in their episode where they went to Okinawa, Japan, Barbie also didn’t know how to play volleyball. During their break in the beach scene, the four guys suddenly carried Barbie and dropped her off on the water. She was afraid of the waves that’s why she kept on screaming.

In the hospital scene where F3 pretended that DMS died already, SC sat on DMS’s lap to hit him after she found out that she had been tricked. Remember that part where Mei Zuo and Xi Men pulled SC away? In the first take, they did it so fast that the nursing gown worn by Barbie slid up. It’s a good thing that she was wearing cycling shorts so it wasn’t too embarrassing on her part when the gown was pulled up. But Jerry scolded Vanness about that. He reminded him to do it carefully. This move by Jerry did not surprise the production staff because they’ve always observed how protective and kind Jerry is to Barbie. By the way, the scenes in the hospital were a riot because the F4 and Barbie kept on making mistakes. They were always laughing. Whenever they’re complete, it was always hard to keep a straight face.
-In the amusement park episode (Episode 12), we saw Xiao You and her boyfriend try the rides. Barbie and Jerry were instructed by the director to take the roller coaster ride. But Barbie was very scared of that (that is why we never saw them in any of the rides). She even asked if they could hire someone again to be her double. But the man who acted as her double in the kidnapping episode was not around so the director assented to Barbie’s refusal to ride. But during the break, Jerry suddenly pulled Barbie towards the roller coaster. She went red in fear and hugged a post so Jerry wouldn’t be successful in pulling her. What Jerry did was to tickle her so she’d let go of the post. He immediately carried her towards the roller coaster. Petite as she was, Barbie’s flailing arms were not enough to stop Jerry from letting her sit beside him on the ride. She kept on screaming for help from the staff and crew who were once again laughing at the antics of Jerry. When seated, Barbie was trying to remove the hands and arms of Jerry because he was blocking her escape. Then Jerry yelled at the machine operator to let the roller coaster start its movement. Everyone around them was laughing as Jerry tried to turn a deaf ear to Barbie’s wild screams. She held on tightly to his arms because she was really afraid of the ride. When the roller coaster stopped, Barbie immediately stood up but she felt very dizzy already so she almost fell. Jerry assisted her and he quickly requested for water from the staff and he made Barbie drink it. Barbie was nearly in tears because of that. The director asked them if they can ride again so they can take a shot for the episode but Barbie refused. She still hasn’t overcome her fears yet. That was what Jerry wanted initially, for her to lose her fear of the roller coaster.
-Still on that episode, do you remember the scene where Shan Cai was convincing DMS to smile? Then when DMS smiled, she exclaimed how handsome he looks. After the scene was filmed, the two continued walking and Jerry jokingly stated, “Yeah, I’m really handsome.” Barbie yelled back that he’s thick-skinned. The two continued to laugh together.
- In episode 13, there was a scene where Dao Ming Si was telling Shan Cai that their 2-month dating arrangement is nearing its deadline. There was a part where Shan Cai would embrace him from the back. Jerry was instructed by the director to put on a facial expression that would show how he’s touched by SC’s affection. So when Barbie put her arms around him, he placed his hands around Barbie’s arms too. But after the director shouted “CUT!”, Jerry didn’t want to remove his hands and arms from Barbie’s. (In the “missing scenes” part in the MG1 DVD, a part of this shot was taken). Barbie wanted to remove her arms already but Jerry was adamant in keeping the position. Everyone around them was laughing already because Jerry walked towards the streets, dragging Barbie along while keeping the “hug” position. After one more take, they had to execute the scene seriously because they were starting to attract more street spectators.
-Vic and Vanness were always laughing at Jerry in their scene together at the Dao Ming mansion (episode 13) where Xiao You was missing along with Xi Men. Jerry couldn’t concentrate in his exchange of dialogues with Barbie because of the distractions given by his two friends. What Jerry did was to get the pillows on the couch and threw them at Vic and Vanness.
-In the hotel scene of DMS and SC where they danced while the violinist was playing music, Jerry laughed hard during the first few takes because of the music played. The violinist was not really knowledgeable about playing the violin. He was just hired to act as a violinist so during the take, Jerry couldn’t help but laugh because the “violinist” was off key. Jerry even imitated the sound that came from the violin and Barbie and the crew kept on laughing too.
-As observed by Ate during the times she got to visit the location shoots, every time Jerry and Barbie would fool around, Jerry would always pinch Barbie’s nose, while she would often press her finger against Jerry’s dimple.

MG2
-Barbie is brought to the location shooting by her Mom who drives her to the workplace and just picks her up after the work is done. One time, Barbie had no ride home because her Mom couldn’t pick her up that day. Since it was nighttime already, she asked some of the staff and crew if she could ride with any of them. The staff willingly offered her a ride but she was asked to wait for them finish another scene to be taken in another location. Since Barbie’s tired already, she told the people that she would just take a cab. Jerry, upon hearing Barbie’s dilemma, quickly offered her a ride since he’s already finished with his work that day. He pointed out to her that it is dangerous for her to take the taxi at night and since she’s an actress/singer, Jerry said that Barbie might be risking her security. She didn’t want to burden him anymore because they’re both tired so she declined the offer. But what Jerry did was to go straight to his car, bringing Barbie’s things with him. (Ate said that during MG1 filming, Jerry had only his scooter and would often ride with Vanness or Vic if he didn’t have a ride; but in MG2 filming, Jerry had his own car already). By the way, as mentioned by the source, there were times when Jerry would meet Barbie after she’s dropped off by her Mom so he could help her carry her small bag of clothes and make-up kit (isn’t that cute? I remember their scene in MG1 at the airport going to Okinawa when DMS told SC that he’ll just be the one to carry her stuff).
-Many NG scenes/bloopers from MG2 were shown in Taiwan. One is the scene in Barcelona where Shan Cai got lost. When DMS and SC saw each other, they headed towards each other’s direction. But when they embraced, they were both heaving in exhaustion due to the long path they had to run to reach each other. In addition, they also forgot their lines. Barbie was waiting for Jerry to say his lines but he didn’t remember what to say so Barbie looked at him then Jerry laughed. She told him that if ever he remembered his lines, she still would have just stared at him because she completely forgot hers. If you noticed in that scene, DMS hugged her so tightly that Jerry’s arms were almost covering Barbie’s face but the in the continuing scene, the arms of Jerry were placed much lower, thus, giving Barbie’s face an exposure.
-Barbie was scared of the guy who was selling the balloons to her in an MG2 scene where she was lost. It was not scripted. The guy just kept on offering the balloons to her. She told him “no” several times but would not listen.
-In the park and market scenes in Barcelona, the director just told them to act naturally and not mind the camera nor the people who were staring at them. So if you enjoyed watching them in their scenes, the two enjoyed themselves too. They were not given instructions to hold hands or be sweet but that’s what they did.
-Still in the marketplace, Jerry saw a woman open a small box when a small figure with its tongue out emerged and that surprised the woman. (reminds me of the scene in MG1 where DMS gave Teng Tan Chin a box of surprise) Jerry immediately got the box and headed straight for Barbie. He tapped her from the back and handed her the box. When she opened it, she squealed in surprise also because of the figure. Of course, Jerry had a good laugh. He asked her if he wants it but Barbie declined because she said she’s no longer a kid. Jerry didn’t buy it anymore.
-Jerry was laughing at Barbie because she was really afraid of the tall woman that had fake, big eyes in one of the non-dialogue scenes in Barcelona. If you observed, she moved backwards when the woman approached her and Barbie held on to Jerry’s arm.
-Before that scene with the moving statues was taken, the director told them not to hold hands because the statues were going to shake Barbie’s hand, but obviously, the two didn’t listen to the instructions because it was Jerry’s hand that was holding Barbie’s and he just put up her hand towards the man, who in turn, shook the hand of Barbie.

-Another non-dialogue scene was when DMS was peering through the telescope. Since there was music, the viewers couldn’t hear the speaking lines. In the special scenes vcd of MG2, Jerry was heard saying jokingly, “I’m so handsome!” that was why Barbie hit him playfully on the head as she shouted, “thick-faced!”
-In the cable car scene where DMS and SC were shouting something, SC was shown covering her ears because she didn’t expect DMS’ yell to be that loud. Jerry later apologized to Barbie for that.
-Just before their kissing scene on the bed (episode 1) was taken, Jerry felt very sleepy already but after the scene took place, the director and staff teased Jerry because he suddenly felt very awake. Anyway, in that scene, they were required to wear white shirts. What Jerry did was to buy white shirts for himself and Barbie. That’s what they wore in that scene. When the director asked them to go to the bed because that’s where the scene will be taken, Jerry teasingly asked the director if “something” is going to happen between DMS and SC. Barbie hit Jerry playfully and even called him an idiot as she explained that of course they wouldn’t show that in MG anymore even if something happens between their characters. As motivation for the two leads, the director told them to act like they’re really lovers. Since there was music already during the “cat & mouse scene” on the bed, we couldn’t hear any sound. In Ate’s cd, it was shown that Barbie was screaming in some of the takes because Jerry was pulling her towards him. Remember that part where Shan Cai almost fell? In one take, she did fall. And then when DMS was trying to control SC’s struggles, Barbie’s shirt was sliding up. So she asked the director to re-take that part. When it was being re-shot, it was Jerry who was making an effort to pull down Barbie’s shirt so it wouldn’t slide up but the director shouted “Cut!” again because he said that Jerry was being too obvious in protecting Barbie’s shirt from sliding up. So another shot was taken. Before that kissing scene was filmed, the director, staff and crew agreed among themselves to cast a joke on the two. The director instructed Jerry and Barbie not to stop kissing unless they hear him say “Cut!” As the kiss progressed, the director said “Cut” very softly. It was deliberate on his part because they all wanted Jerry and Barbie to prolong the scene. When the two noticed that they’ve been kissing for the longest time, Jerry decided to rise from the bed and asked the director if he would not end the scene. The director innocently said that he already said “Cut!” but the two wouldn’t budge. J & B started laughing because they knew they were being taken for a ride again. B said that it’s good that J rose already because he was too heavy for her & felt her body sinking on the bed.
-The other kissing scene for MG2 took place inside the church. The director teased J again if he felt nervous because when the shot was taken, he inadvertently kissed Barbie’s nose instead of her lips. But J replied laughingly that the scene required him to stop SC from speaking so he would have to kiss her immediately. He said it was hard to kiss on the targeted lips. By the way, it took all of them ‘til early morning for the kissing scene to be shot in the hotel room (the one on the bed) but after that scene, the director told them to sleep already because when they wake up, their kissing scene in the church would be shot already. Barbie asked the director if they could shoot it after 2-3 days so their lips can take a rest. (Hahaha!) The director agreed

-In the Broken Vow scene (SC sees DMS for the first time), SC was supposed to run after the bus where DMS rode. Of course, when the chasing scene was taken, Jerry was not inside the bus anymore. Actually, it was just the driver and the bus. When Barbie, as Shan Cai, was chasing the bus, she fell on the ground and hurt her knee. Jerry, who was watching from the side street, rushed towards her. He was helping her stand but Barbie’s knee was still painful so she asked him to give her a few seconds of rest. Later on, Jerry carried her towards the bench where she rested. Everyone was concerned. The director said that they’ll let her rest for a while before the scene can be re-shot. Jerry suggested that they bring Barbie to the hospital and just re-shoot the scene the next day, but Barbie said that she’ll just rest for a while and insisted that they finish the scene already. So after some time, the scene was finally executed.
-During a film-break of MG2 in the location shooting for Dao Ming Corp, Ate & her officemate decided to go up to the 7th floor to catch a glimpse of Jerry and Barbie in the set. When they were heading towards the elevator, the director of MG was also walking towards the lift. When the doors of the lift opened, the director, Ate and her friend were surprised to see Jerry carrying Barbie in his arms (imagine a groom carrying his bride). Ate thought at first that it was a scene but she changed her mind upon realizing that the director was caught in surprise too. If you remember, Barbie as Shan Cai had to wear office clothes. Her skirt was a bit short making it easy for it to slide up if she’s carried. So what surprised the 3 who bumped into J&B was that Jerry’s outer jacket (suit) was covering Barbie’s legs so no one will see her undergarments. Ate always brings her video camera with her and was actually holding it because she was intending to see J&B in the upper floor. She was so excited to see J&B in one of their playful moods again but as she was about to video them, a staff prevented her from doing so. Anyway, the director asked Jerry why he was carrying Barbie. He answered that Barbie’s lazy to go down so he decided to carry her. Barbie immediately hit Jerry’s nape playfully and replied that she wasn’t lazy. According to her, the both of them decided to eat downstairs (where the catered food for the stars is located) since it was break time already, but when they got to the elevator, Jerry just carried her in his arms.
-In one episode of MG2 where SC released red balloons one by one as DMS looks from the balcony, DMS was supposed to catch one balloon. But during the filming, it was very difficult for him to catch even one because it was windy. There was even a time when he jumped just to get hold of one string. The director shouted “Cut!” and said that he shouldn’t jump. They just tied one balloon lightly to the railing so DMS can catch one.
-In the box of memories scene where DMS and SC were talking about the past, they were serious in expressing their emotions, when one of the light fixtures on the set suddenly fell. This broke the serious spell because they were all laughing at the minor accident.
-In episode 23, Dao Ming Si confronted Shan Cai whom he accused of using her friends to get close to him. The scene ends with DMS rejecting SC and so she cries so hard after that. According to Ate who witnessed the filming on the rooftop, Barbie couldn’t stop crying after even the director shouted “CUT!” Jerry was just at the side watching the scene. When it ended and he saw Barbie still crying, he called her name and approached her, giving her a hug in order to comfort her. (Awww!) According to the staff, when Barbie’s required to cry, it is hard for her to just stop her tears from flowing even if the scene has been cut already.
-The filming of Jerry and Barbie on top of the hill in Chapter 28 was difficult for them because at that time, it was very cold. They had to shoot the meteor shower scene for two nights. The strong winds also drowned their voices so it was another factor that made it hard for them to finish the scene. Barbie pitied Jerry because he was only wearing a long-sleeved polo that was made of thin material and had no jacket so he was very cold. The two would embrace during break time to make themselves feel warm.

-In the kissing scene inside the church (episode 31)….the director instructed Barbie to have a surprised look when DMS suddenly kisses her. Her eyes should slowly close, the director said. He also told Barbie to kiss back because this time the atmosphere is already different. Jerry, upon hearing this instruction, became very happy. He said it was the first time that Shan Cai/Barbie would kiss him back. The director told Jerry that as DMS, his eyes would open when he realizes that SC is kissing him back (that’s what we saw in the scene). When they tried to shoot that scene for the first time, Jerry couldn’t stop from chuckling. Barbie tapped him on the head and asked if one should laugh when kissing. Jerry replied that he’s just happy.
-In the same scene, Ate’s cd showed a full shot of the scene. DMS’ arm was around SC and his other hand around her nape. Barbie’s arm went around DMS back. Then Barbie noticed the sign on the clapper while they were kissing. It said, “No Cut!” She suddenly released herself from him and pointed to the director the sign on the clapper. The director and staff laughed again. Barbie discovered their joke on them.
-Ken, Vic, Vanness and the girl who played Teng Tan Chin (Qian Wei Zhan) were there in the church also during the kissing scene shooting of Jerry and Barbie because other scenes would require their presence. They were all watching the execution of the kissing scene. Vanness would give pointers to Jerry but Chin would remind Vanness that Jerry knew how to kiss already so he didn’t need pointers. Chin teased Vanness that maybe he wanted to do the kissing scene with Barbie. Vanness replied that if Jerry needed a double, he could be hired.
-The F3 are really kings of practical jokes. If it’s not Jerry who’s their victim, it’s Barbie whom they love to play the joke on. One time, during their shooting, Barbie felt very sleepy already because of the hard work they put in that day. Since her next scene would still take some time to be taken, she decided to take a nap first. What the F3 did was to enter the room and suddenly woke her up, telling her that her scene is going to be filmed already. Upon learning that it was just a joke, Barbie threw things she could find on the table towards the F3. She was really very tired then and almost felt like crying because of the joke. The next day, Jerry was surprised when Barbie was not talking to Vic, Vanness and Ken. Eventually, the F3 made amends with her. Jerry said that if F3 did that to him, he jokingly said that they’ll get a beating from him.

-The F4 love to tease Barbie also about her make-up and clothes when she arrives on the set. Sometimes, straight from her ASOS gig, she would come to the set with her signature dark clothes, dark nail polish and heavy make-up (that’s how she looks like during her singing engagements). One time, Vanness asked her to sing a love song/ballad but she said she only knows rock songs.
--Last year, Jerry and Barbie had a misunderstanding after Barbie expressed in a press conference that she didn’t consider Jerry as her friend and that she would just come to work as a professional. This offended Jerry. In his own press conference, he became emotional over the negative news hounding him. But after Barbie knew of Jerry’s reaction, she sent word that she was sorry for having spoken ill of him. Barbie said that they were both very exhausted from the MG2 tapings and it so happened that their moods did not match up. For the staff and crew, it was normal to see these two argue then make up afterwards. So naturally, they were affected also when the two met up in the shooting again but were not speaking to each other. It was the first time that Jerry and Barbie did not talk to each other. It’s already been a week that they’ve not interacted well on the set. What Vic, Vanness and Ken did was to talk to the two of them. Barbie was afraid to talk to Jerry because he might not accept her personal apology. Jerry was hesitant to talk to her also because of course, he was hurt by Barbie’s comments during the presscon. The director, staff, crew and F3 were all affected and did not want the rift to go on so after F3 talked to both Jerry and Barbie, they dragged the two together and made them face each other. Barbie apologized immediately and told him that what she did was wrong. She also said that Jerry should know her better…because she’s really a frank person. Jerry embraced her and accepted her apology. Aside from the production staff, a reporter witnessed this reconciliation. This reporter is one of the few media persons that F4 and Barbie trust because he’s not biased. The director requested the reporter not to write the incident anymore because he said that what’s important is that they know that Jerry and Barbie are in good terms already. F4 said that it doesn’t matter anymore what others say as long as they’re doing ok. Anyway, they are not alien to the fact that media sometimes exaggerate stories. They are used to that. One example of bad press was the flak Barbie got for being close to F4. In some news reports, she was tagged as a playgirl. It was Jerry who was one of the first to defend her, saying that Barbie is naturally bubbly that is why the four of them enjoy her company. He said that there shouldn’t be any malice when she’s friendly with them. Another exaggeration was that after the MG2 presscon where Jerry was absent due to exhaustion in work, some reporters said that it was only Barbie who didn’t visit Jerry when he was sick. The truth was that Barbie did visit him but just before he was released from the hospital.
-In the filming of MG2’s opening billboard (where F4 plus Barbie and Michelle were walking along the hilltop wearing white), it was reported that Jerry and and Barbie had a slight misunderstanding (but no clear reason was given) because when Barbie and Vanness were joking around, Jerry was not in a good mood. Vanness mentioned that if Jerry and Barbie are not standing beside each other in a pictorial, that means they’re not in good terms at that moment. He added that fans are very lucky because when they visit the set, they find Jerry and Barbie in a good mood and are very sweet to each other. Ate often witnessed this in the instances that she visited the filming. She even has pictures of the two. Jerry initially declined to have his picture taken with Barbie where they would pose sweetly because he’s afraid that Ate might reproduce the shots but Ate promised that it’s for her personal collections. Jerry and Barbie agreed so they embraced and had their pic taken. Ate also had a picture of her with the two. She was the one in the middle. J&B made the peace sign in the picture. Ate said that in one pic, Jerry put his arm around her. Of course she was very thrilled. She said that Jerry and Barbie smelled so good also. Then Vic passed by the area so they invited him to join. Ate requested the 3 of them to pose. Both J & B didn’t want to stay in the middle because of the belief that it’s bad omen to stay in the middle for a picture when there are just 3. Vic asked who’ll stay in the middle, and the two pointed at him (hahaha!) So in the pic, Vic was in the middle. Vic made a funny face while the two put horns on Vic’s head.
-In one of the filming days of MG2, Jerry asked Vic to come with him so they could buy food for Barbie. Being very careful with her diet, she didn’t want to eat the food that was available on the set that time. Jerry set out to find food for her. Since it was already nighttime, most of the food establishments were closed already. In one of the food counters that was about to close, Jerry promised to give the girl an autograph in exchange for the food. Barbie was very surprised to see Jerry bringing food for her.
-Remember the Philippine mangoes that Ate gave Barbie? (story included in the post last month). Ate said that Jerry asked Barbie for some mangoes and she gave him 2 pieces only (remember, mangoes are her favorite so she didn’t want to give them away). When Ate learned that Jerry liked it too, she sent a basketful of mangoes to him. When he received the fruits, he made an effort to let Barbie know about it so she would be envious of him too. (Hahaha!)
-Ate said that Jerry loves the beach that’s why he’s always tanned. But his real skin color is a bit fairer.
-Barbie knows how to play the drums and guitar that’s why she and Ken jam. One time, Barbie was teaching Jerry how to play the guitar but he couldn’t get it right away.

-Both the actress playing Ten Tang Chin and Ye Sha (Michelle Saram) became good friends with Barbie during the filming. Barbie would ride a bicycle with Chin during break time while Michelle and Barbie would swap stories during filming.
-In one of the news items on Taiwan tv, it was reported that in the planned movie for the F4, the production is getting the F4’s their respective partners in MG as their movie leading ladies. But when Barbie was interviewed, she commented that it would look like Meteor Garden-The Movie if they will still be the partners of the guys there. Barbie said that she likes to tackle more mature roles. But in the present recording work of Jerry on his first album, many fans are requesting for Barbie’s participation in one of Jerry’s upcoming music videos.
F4-BARBIE COMMENTS:
-Barbie is often called by the F4 as a “young girl” because her build suits her character as Shan Cai. She may be older than them but she looks quite young.
-Vanness likes to tease Barbie about her hips.
-In one segment of Ate’s cd, the F4 were asked to rate the girls they worked with in MG1 and 2. Here are their ratings and explanations:
1) The actress who played Ten Tang Chin: Jerry gave her an 8. Ken rated her as 7. Vic and Vanness gave her an 8 too. They said that she’s very tall and pretty.
2) The actress who portrayed Xiao Tzi: Ken, Vanness and Jerry gave her 5. Vic rated her a 6. They said she’s pretty but not exactly their type.
3) Xiao You: Jerry gave her a 5, while Ken, Vanness and Vic gave her a 6. They all said that Rainie is still very young. When Ken was asked if he didn’t develop romantic feelings for Rainie, he answered that she’s too young for him.
4) Michelle Saram (Ye Sha): Vic gave her a 5. He finds her beautiful but as a personal choice, he prefers girls who are not so pretty. Ken gave her a 7. He describes her as beautiful also but not exactly his type because he finds Michelle too “mestiza”. Vanness gave her a perfect 10. He likes her face and body. Jerry rated her as 8. She’s beautiful according to Jerry but he goes more for the not so pretty yet not ugly type of girl.
5) The actress who played Xiao Qiao Ken gave her a 9. He says that the girl is his crush because she’s tall and pretty. He wanted her to be his partner but he had to give in to Vanness (this comment made the reporter laugh). Vic rated her a 5 for the same reason she gave Michelle. Jerry rated her a 7. He finds her beautiful but not his type. He commented that she looks good with Vanness that’s why he teased Vanness about the girl but Vanness said that it’s only work. However, Vanness rated her a perfect 10 because as he said, he was the one who selected the girl to play Xiao Qiao.

6) Barbie Xu Vic gave her an 8. He even gave a thumb’s up sign to the camera and made a funny face. He said that his friend is not so pretty at first glance but when you look at her as the days pass, you’ll appreciate her beauty more. He adds that Barbie is a very kind person and that she’s like her older sister. Ken rated her as a 9 ½. Then he said that isn’t it obvious? He likes Barbie. Like Vic, he said that Barbie is not striking at first especially during their initial meeting. Barbie had just come from a gig so she looked very tired with dark circles under her eyes. But after some time, he saw the real beauty (Hehehe!) He added that he didn’t give a 10 because it would look like “he loves his own.” Vanness gave Barbie a 9. He remarked that Barbie’s pretty and has a very nice smile. He teased her by saying that she looks ugly when she’s in a bad mood. He said that he didn’t give Barbie a 10 because as he said (he made an effort to speak louder) “The other guy might hit me if I say I think Barbie’s perfect.” (The other guy? Hmmm...your guess is as good as mine ;p) Jerry rated Barbie a 10. He said he didn’t want to be biased but Barbie’s the girl he appreciates. Physically, he finds her just right. He added that looking at Barbie is like drinking wine. The more you look at her, the better she gets especially when she smiles. Jerry remarked that Barbie looks very young because of her happy disposition. She’s fun to be with and makes the crew laugh. Jerry said that maybe that’s her secret to her youthful looks.
The reporter also asked F4 to say what part of Barbie’s face do they like. Vic likes Barbie’s eyes because they’re expressive. Ken likes her nose because they both have piercings there. Vanness likes her whole face especially when she smiles. He also likes her cheeks because they have a natural pinkish color. When it was Jerry’s turn, he asked the reporter if he can cite 3 features. The reporter said 1 only but Jerry insisted on citing 3 anyway. He likes her hair that’s why he likes touching it. He likes her eyes also because she has beautiful eyes, he said. Jerry said she’s transparent because Barbie’s emotions can be read thru her eyes. The third feature he likes is Barbie’s nose. He likes to pinch it. He even bit it in one of the takes in their kissing scene (MG1 episode 5). Moreover, he said that he also admires her acting skills.
-The reporter asked Barbie also to rate the F4. She rated from 1 to 5. 1 being the lowest and 5 being the highest.
1) Vic: she gave his adopted godbrother a 2. The reporter laughed. Barbie explained that Vic has always been committing blunders in his speaking lines way back in MG1. But he always manages to make her laugh too that’s why they avoid looking at each other’s eyes when exchanging dialogues. She considers Vic their baby.
2) Ken: she rated him as a 4. Barbie sees Ken as being very professional; someone who seldom makes mistakes on the set. She admires his work attitude because he even asks the director for some tips before filming. She likes Ken’s eyes because according to her, they’re expressive. She also finds Ken very serious and mature. An older girl would complement him best according to Barbie.
3) Vanness: was given a 3 by Barbie. She compliments him for being a fun person to be with. She deems him as someone who’s always positive in his outlook. However, she remarked that Vanness had a distracting mannerism in MG1…that was the touching of his hair. Since he had long hair in MG1, he would always fix it. In MG2, she noticed that he improved. She would even slap his hand whenever Vanness would make an effort to fix his hair again during takes.
4) Jerry: Barbie gave him a perfect 5. She said that Bao Long is a very good actor and was even better in MG2. She even mentioned having clapped for his performance in one scene in MG2 because she was impressed. Physically, she likes his eyes and nose. For her, Jerry’s nose is the best among the 4. She says Jerry’s nose is different. His eyes also mirror his feelings.

Ate has been to the mall tours of the Meteor Garden cast. In the second mall tour of the cast, Barbie, Rainie (Xiao You), Chin and Ou Di were able to join F4. When they came down from the coaster, the fans were all agog to see and touch them. First to come out was Ken, followed by Ou Di, Rainie, Barbie, Jerry, Vic, Chin and Vanness. Jerry wore a blue sleeveless shirt while Barbie was in her usual shirt and pants get-up. Jerry initially wore a jacket but he gave it to his assistant. There was security around the cast but the fans were just so many that many of them could easily reach the actors/actresses. Jerry was very protective of Barbie as he put his arms around her while making their way towards the mall. Some fans wanted to touch them and some even accidentally pulled Barbie’s hair. Because Jerry was trying to cover her with his arms, he suffered some scratches on his arms. Chin was put in the middle of Vic and Vanness so her hair wouldn’t be pulled by some fans also. When the cast entered the mall, more fans surrounded them. Ou Di told Jerry and Barbie to hurry up the stage so they won’t be pressed by the people anymore. So the two ran up the stage and the fans went wild in excitement. When the whole cast was on stage already, that’s when the program started. Ou Di and Chin were the hosts. They asked whom the fans wanted to see first. And they shouted Jerry’s name. When Jerry came out to greet the fans, he thanked the people for coming. The fans shouted Barbie’s name so she came out to join him. Barbie asked the audience if they ate already. The people said no and Barbie said she, too, was feeling hungry already. Ou Di teased Jerry and Barbie but he suddenly stayed in the middle so the two wouldn’t stand beside each other. Ou Di asked the audience if they wanted to hear Jerry and Barbie do a duet and the fans shouted yes. But when Barbie and Jerry were discussing, they couldn’t agree on any song because Barbie did not know Jerry’s song yet (I Truly Love You) although she already knew Meteor Rain then. So the two didn’t have a duet. It was Ken and Rainie who sang together. According to Ate, Ken and Rainie sang beautifully. When F4 sang Meteor Rain, Barbie, Ou Di, Rainie and Chin joined in the singing.
The mall show was very successful. But to get them out of the mall was another thing. The cast had to stay in the basement for a while so they can pass at the back exit. Fans were there at the back also. Jerry got his jacket from his assistant and put it around Barbie so she wouldn’t be scratched when they went outside

The following are mixed stories again about JY, B, Ken, Vic and Vanness. Please bear with me because whatever Ate remembers, she just narrates it randomly to my friend.
-an Indonesian friend of mine here in the net asked if it’s true that Barbie and Blue were seen in Japan together recently. I requested my friend to ask Ate about this. The latter said that Barbie and Blue couldn’t have been together because Blue came home to Taiwan a month earlier than Barbie who came from Europe. Blue appeared in a showbiz talk show in Taiwan and even mentioned that he saw one of the F4 in Japan and said it was Bao Long (Jerry). Ate said that Blue and Barbie were supposed to work together in a series but Barbie was already busy with the filming of The Chinese Ghost Story (now being shown in CETV). Blue’s partners were the two girls featured in the music videos of Vic and Vanness (don’t know who the girls are). At one time, Ate said that Blue was even linked to Karen Mok (I guess no one’s going to protest here…hahaha! Karen is a popular actress so I guess she’s easily linked to others left and right.)
-(Xiao Kez a.k.a. Miss Kiwi: you were the one who asked about the duet of Ken and Rainie/Xiao You right?) Ate said that Ken and Rainie sang a mandarin song which has a beautiful melody (sorry, don’t know the title but she compared the tempo to Jerry’s I Truly Love You). Ate said that both did great in singing. But she observed that during the group singing (Meteor Rain), the two did not stand beside each other. Rainie seemed closer to Ou Di (Qing He). Rainie, who’s part of an all-girl band is not the lead vocalist of her group, yet her voice is very nice.
-in last week’s reunion of F3 with Barbie, Vic was surprised by Xiao S’ new hairdo. She usually keeps her hair long but for those of us who watched the ASOS interview in CETV last weekend, we saw her with short hair. Vic was not used to seeing short hair on her which Hsu-Ti (Xiao S) even colored blue that night. Vic told her she looked mature with her new hairstyle. Hsu Ti quipped that now they both look 22 years old (apparently, Hsu Ti would tease Vic before that he looked older than his age).
-for those who asked how Barbie and Blue interacted during work, Ate said that she can only describe those times that she saw them together, like during MG filming and ASOS gigs. Ate said that the two are not very affectionate when together. They’re a bit reserved. In ASOS gigs, he would attend and watch his gf but not assist her when she goes around. (A few weeks ago, Ate saw Jerry visit Barbie in one of her gigs, and that was when he came alone. He assisted her in going down, which Ate never witnessed Blue do for Da S whenever he visits her. Ate thinks that Jerry’s the showy type but not in very public places. Remember, the pub has limited patrons so I guess he’s not exactly shy about his gentlemanly ways.) Blue also brings home Barbie after her gig. But in the past year, Ate has not seen Blue in any of the shows that’s why that’s an additional reason why she knows that the two aren’t together anymore.
-I asked my friend to confirm with Ate if Blue has really been guarding Barbie during the tapings. She said that she didn’t want to be unfair to Blue because she was not present in all the tapings. But she did see him during the filming of episodes 16 & 17 of course, because he was part of the story then. She mentioned that Blue didn’t talk much with Jerry and Ken, but instead talked more with Vic and Vanness. I would understand why he wouldn’t talk much with Jerry (reasons need not be specified; we can draw our own conclusions) but I wondered why Ken was not close to him either. (This I’ll elaborate on in a while). In the filming of one of the scenes where DMS, SC, Xi Men, Mei Zhuo, Qing He and Ya Men were together (ending part of episode 16 where Ya Men admitted being the fake cousin of DMS), Ate said that Vic was there on the set also. He was convincing the director to let him join that episode because he didn’t want to miss out on another episode (in that chapter, Lei was still in Japan). He specifically wanted to join that scene where F3, SC, Qing He and Ya Men were together because as Vic said, he wanted to join in on the “action.” (Hahaha! Remember, DMS threw a punch at Ya Men but the latter was able to move away). Anyway, before the scene could be perfected, the director had a “headache” because the F3 and Ou Di were goofing around. The F3 loved to make fun of Ou Di who has become close to them. He’s like a kid too that’s why they love him. Ate observed that Blue was just very serious while Barbie was laughing at the antics of the four. After some time, the director instructed them to do the scene seriously but Vanness asked if they can just play around first (hehehe…sounded like a kid) since it was still early. But the director said that the scene was needed for its daylight effect and then they had to move on to the next scene already. That’s the only time they became serious in executing the scene. But Ate said that in between those repeated takes, there was one time when Barbie noticed that Blue was just quiet on the side, and so she approached her boyfriend and talked to him. Later on, they started fooling around too. Suddenly, Jerry turned his back then the other 3 (Ou Di, Vanness and Ken) turned their backs also and walked away. They just returned when called again by the director (don’t know why….but your guess again is as good as mine). All in all, that scene had 5 takes! The director constantly warned Vic on the side not to join the scene. Vic was persistent that he wanted to participate in the scene (but of course he followed the director). But during film breaks, the F4 and Ou Di would just ham it up and act like kids. They would always pull Ou Di in different directions.
Ate commented that the way she observed the relationship of Blue with the F4 is that Vic was naturally friendly to him but not as close of course to his buddies. Vanness was also friendly but seemed not too serious when talking with him. The way it was described to my friend, it’s like Vanness was more of a listener when talking to Blue. Now here’s the story with Ken. Ate said that it’s possible that Blue wasn’t too friendly with Ken aside from Jerry was because of the courtship issue. I asked Ate thru my friend how she got to know about Ken’s courtship of Barbie. She said that the news first came out as a blind item in Taiwan. Being very popular, the F4 were always hounded by the media even during the filming. One time, reporters kept on asking the four who among them was courting Da S but Jerry, Vanness and Vic all said they weren’t. What Ken said was that he had a crush on Barbie. When the crew were asked by the reporters, one of them had a slip of the tongue and said that it was Ken. Pressed further for details, that staff member said that Ken would always cook food for Barbie. However, Barbie wasn’t always able to eat the food because she’s semi-vegetarian, while Ken cooked meat dishes for her. When Barbie was asked about the issue, he said that Ken’s just friendly to her and denied that Ken ever courted her. (So we really can’t conclude if he did court her. No official statement from any of them BUT he did cook for her several times, according to the crew. One more thing, this happened before Ken knew about Blue. Perhaps, Blue learned about Ken’s early intentions…just a guess.)

In the Ying De scenes with Blue, Ate said that Jerry was distant to Barbie. As posted several times already, the whole cast is really close to each other but when Blue is there, Jerry does not make an effort to go near her too much, lest he be accused of flirting with someone else’s girlfriend. That’s what’s admirable about Jerry, Ate commented. He didn’t court Barbie while she was in a relationship. How about at present? I don’t know what the status really is but at least we know they’re close again. Now in fairness to Blue, Ate said that the crew didn’t find him a difficult actor to work with. He was nice to the others too. But Ate was just wondering how he can be so angered at Barbie’s intimate scenes with other actors when he himself has had very passionate scenes with other actresses in other series. (Well, double standard in the works?)
ENDING SCENE OF MG 1
(Ate, being a regular visitor on the set, was offered to sit as an extra in that last scene. They were offered TW$2,000 each just to act as extra. They were asked to sit on the sides and act as customers of McDonald’s but Ate refused to join in because she didn’t want her officemates to tease her. But she stayed on the set ‘til the scene finished so here’s her story…)
That last scene started with Shan Cai coming out of a McDonald’s store right? Jerry and Barbie were instructed to take a slow walk when she meets him outside. But what Jerry did was to hold Barbie’s hand right away when she came out. The director had to cut the scene and instructed Jerry not to hold her hand at once. Shan Cai was still going to offer him food. But Jerry complained and asked if he can hold Barbie’s hand already. Of course the director didn’t let him. Then in that part where Shan Cai repeated to DMS that she likes him, isn’t it DMS ran towards her and they embraced? Ate said that Barbie had to tiptoe because she’s petite. Did you notice Jerry’s expression when they hugged? He was very happy and he almost bit her neck. The director, who was inside the McDonald’s store was shouting at Jerry not to bite Barbie’s neck. Barbie said that he could feel already Jerry’s teeth on her neck. Jerry almost but didn’t bite her. He hugged Barbie so tightly in that scene that she protested while laughing. So they re-took the scene. They had to film that short scene several times because he kept on embracing her tightly. Barbie told Jerry that she couldn’t breathe anymore. There was even a take when he pecked her neck already. Because of the repeated takes, it made Barbie’s feet ache because she had to tiptoe all the time. When the director shouted out (from the McDo store) why he kept on hugging her tightly, Jerry yelled back, “We might not see each other anymore.” (Awww! Everyone around them heard that. How sweet!). The singer, Harlem Yu, took a fancy on these two. He, too, commented how sweet J&B were. Jerry was hyper that day, according to the people in the set. He always held Barbie’s hand and didn’t want to let go. Harlem teased Jerry that Barbie’s hand might swell already because of his tight hold. Jerry said that he just couldn’t control his emotions that day (in tagalog, nanggigigil). (Ate related that in one taping day of MG1, Jerry was also uncontrollable. He and Barbie were seated together, waiting for Vic, Ken and Vanness to arrive, then Jerry just bit Barbie’s arm. Of course the latter howled in pain. Some staff members approached Barbie and saw a bite mark on her arm. Barbie had no choice but to change her sleeveless shirt into a blouse to cover up the mark for the scene they were going to film. Barbie was said to have told Jerry that one reason why she doesn’t want sitting beside him is because when he’s in his hyper mood, he bites her. Hahaha!)
MG2
-Ate said that the very first scene filmed for MG2 was the airport scene, followed by the trip to Spain. The graduation scene was filmed only after the cast came back from Barcelona. Ate and her officemate were very excited to attend the taping in Taiwan, thanks to her boyfriend who informed her about it. When they got there, they were offered again to act as extras. She and her friend were supposed to stand right behind Shan Cai and Qing He. This time, the talent fee was TW$6,000 each. (Whoa!) But Ate didn’t want to join again. She’s too shy to appear on camera…besides, she didn’t want to put herself in an embarrassing situation in the office. But her officemate agreed to the offer. I’m not sure if she’s the one in black or the one right beside Shan Cai. Anyway, she said that in the scene that the black and red cars of F4 were racing on the road, Vanness and Jerry were very excited to film the scene. Vic and Ken were not to keen on riding with the two (hehe) but the director, of course, didn’t allow Jerry and Vanness to drive. They had to hire professionals to execute the scene. The two were disappointed but they understood the dangers the scene posted. (Vanness, by the way almost crashed in one of his outings because in real life, he drives fast). The fast parking of the car was obviously computerized. The petal shower was partly true and partly computerized. Industrial fans were placed very near F4 and the students to create an effect of a windy atmosphere due to the arrival of 4 helicopters. Right after that scene was taken, Jerry asked Vic why he didn’t shake his hand (I guess you noticed that too). Vic said he couldn’t hear his greeting due to the loud sound created by the industrial fans. Because of the strong winds created by the fans, Jerry’s and Ken’s hair ended up disheveled. The hairdressers were called at once. Ou Di laughed at their appearance. Barbie helped out in fixing their hair. While she was fixing Jerry’s hair, the latter told her not to fix it anymore if she’ll just keep on laughing. Ken’s hair was more manageable because despite its length, it was naturally straight

Last Sunday morning, at around 2 A.M., my friend got a direct call from Ate. Ate was inside the pub where ASOS was performing. She wanted my friend to hear the singing voice of Barbie. When I asked my friend how Barbie sounded, she said that the voice sounded good but of course she couldn’t understand the lyrics because they were in mandarin. As for the melody, it was rockin’! Hehehe. Well, that’s really ASOS’ preferred music. Ate said that Da S and Xiao S both play the guitar as well as know how to sing. Sometimes, a male band member is also the vocalist.
When the show was finished, Da S came down from the stage to thank Ate and her boyfriend again for coming to her show. She mentioned right away that Ken, Jerry and Vic could not forget the mangoes she gave. Last Wednesday, when they had their reunion, the guys asked her for some pieces so she gave them out even to some of their friends among the crew. Barbie said only 4 pieces were left which she had to divide between her and Xiao S. Barbie apologized to Ate for bothering her about the mangoes but apparently, Ken even called her to remind her about the fruits. Barbie said that she hopes that Ate does not think of her and F3 (Vanness wasn’t around last week) as being stingy with their money. She said she has gone to the market to look for Phil. Mangoes herself but could only find mangoes from Taiwan and other Asian countries. She really prefers the ones that come from here. She added that F3 tasted the difference too. Anyway, Ate promised to ask her relatives here (To my fellow Pinoys, where can you suggest we buy the mangoes? The fruit’s not in season right now but I still see some in supermarkets. Any suggestions as to where we can get plenty?). Barbie gave her home address and cellphone # to Ate so she can personally thank her when she gives the fruits. She said that if she’s not there, her mom knows about Ate already so she can receive them (Friends, please don’t inquire from me what Barbie’s address is because I don’t know too. I don’t think Ate will share it to me because she herself was surprised that Barbie gave it to her. Barbie told her that she doesn’t give out her address to the others, even to people from showbiz, because it’s her private haven and she’s also protective of her family. Ate’s boyfriend was even jealous of her because Ate has earned Barbie’s trust. Ate’s bf has a crush on Barbie while Ate has a crush on Jerry..hehehe). Since there was only a table napkin lying around, Barbie had to write down the info on the tissue. (Sorry again, it’s an info that I’m not privy to). Barbie said that it was her sister Xiao S who suggested that she give their address already because they didn’t want the people in the pub to think that Ate was selling mangoes to her regularly which was not the case, of course. Da S was profuse in her gratitude that she even sent her thanks to the Philippine farmers for planting the fruits. She even called them geniuses.
Barbie informed Ate that she’ll be absent in three of upcoming ASOS gigs because she submitted 3 entries in an art gallery contest in Singapore. Apparently, Da S went to Europe in June because she had an entry in a painting competition (I’m not sure as to what country she went to) where she won 3rd place. The chairperson of the board of judges favored her painting but the final results placed her at 3rd only. She said she felt bad at first because she knew her entry was good but of course, she had to accept the decision because she knew that the judges had different tastes. Her painting had an environmental theme.
Barbie asked Ate if she liked her series, “The Chinese Ghost Story.” Ate, even if she’s a big fan, was upfront about her opinion and said that she preferred MG1 and 2 because it was fun to watch and that she really prefers Barbie to act with Jerry and F3. Ate then segued to asking Da S about the news that she’s going to do a project soon either with Jerry or Vic as partner. Da S confirmed the project, however, no partner has been chosen yet. Yes, it’s true, it’s been offered to both F2 but Vic couldn’t work with her at this time because he’s still wrapping up his work in Love Storm. If the series with Barbie starts filming soon, Love Storm and the new series might overlap in the showing on tv. Vic’s management didn’t want that. As for Jerry, he’s still 50/50 about it. When Ate asked why, Da S said that Ate should just ask him (Ate’s hoping she sees him again). Barbie then asked Ate if Jerry still remembers her. Ate replied that she doesn’t think so. Barbie said that Jerry’s not very good with names but he remembers the faces of people well. She added that Vanness and Ken have sharper memories when it comes to names.
When asked what the story of the new series is all about, Barbie said that she has read the script and she liked it. It offers a more mature role for her and her partner. She’s supposed to be married to the guy in the story. Barbie commented that compared to the teenybopper theme of MG, the new one caters to a more mature audience. Reminded about MG, Ate told Barbie that many of her friends felt that the ending of MG2 was a bit rushed. Barbie agreed and said that Meteor Garden 2 was supposed to have 2 more episodes, making it 33 episodes in total. According to her, Hua Xi Lei was still supposed to go with Shan Cai to Spain. There, they would have met Dao Ming Si and a brief ‘love triangle’ will still ensue. But the writers of MG thought that extending the story for 2 more episodes might make it more tedious for the viewers. They felt that the audience have long been waiting for the reconciliation of Ah Si and Shan Cai, thus, they decided to end it on the 31st chapter. In addition, everyone felt that the whole series was taking too long to film. They were so much behind schedule so they chose to end it sooner. Now for the ending scene…it was not what they initially planned. We were supposed to see a wedding ceremony! But the writers scrapped the idea, thinking that Dao Ming Si and Shan Cai were too young to get married because they’ve just graduated from college then. (But DMS and SC were working already! They SHOULD have included that wedding scene. Hahaha!)
Ate asked her if there is an MG3. Barbie said that many fans have written them, requesting for a continuation of the story. However, she answered that the cast feels that continuing MG will just be a rehashing of the scenes they had already done. She asked Ate if they still want to see DMS and SC fighting again then making up then fighting again then making up. It’s true that as of this time, she doesn’t see herself again playing Shan Cai but that is because there really is no MG3 in the works yet. Even F4 are not contemplating on that yet because of their hectic schedule.
Their conversation ended with Da S saying that she’d love to visit the Philippines someday. She had been to other Asian countries like Singapore, Japan,Thailand and others but she had not been to the Philippines yet. She did mention about Chocolate Hills in Bohol province because she saw an ad sponsored by our Dept. of Tourism that was featured in Taiwan. She said she’s interested to see those hills.
Ate encourages us, non-Mandarin speakers, to learn even a little about the language so it will be easier for us to communicate with F4 when they do visit our country. Having stayed in Taiwan for such a long time now, of course it’s easy for her to communicate with Da S. Ate said that Jerry’s English has improved greatly but of course, compared to his native language, his knowledge of English is still limited. So one shouldn’t be disappointed if he doesn’t say much when you meet him (and you don’t know Mandarin). So the question is…when shall we start our lesson? Heheh

... Then Vic asked why it’s only Barbie that she’s giving mangoes too. Ate said she’ll ask her relatives here if they can send more Philippine mangoes. Ken, Jerry and Vic were surprised to learn that she’s a Filipina and not Chinese. (According to my friend, Ate looks Chinese). Ate said that yes, she’s a Filipina, then added that there are so many MG fans here and that so many people are waiting for them. Then Vic said that they did hear from Sony Taiwan about the invitation from Sony Phils. Jerry said that he heard about it too. After that, Ken said, “let’s go to the Philippines!” Ate asked Barbie if she can go also, but she said that ASOS is not affiliated with Sony so it’ll be difficult for her band to join F4. She said she’d love to go and be the front act for F4 but as she said, Sony may not get them because they’re not contract artists of that label. Ken said that maybe they can do something about that...
... Surprisingly, Jerry knows about Boracay. He asked Ate about its location. Some of his friends went to Boracay, according to him, and they even showed some pictures of the beach to him. (He really loves going to the beach)...
... Before they left, Da S asked Ate to teach her some Filipino words. Jerry said he wanted to learn too. He said that he felt really embarrassed during the Jakarta concert because he didn’t know the language. He even had notes to help him get by. Moreover, he and Vic had to memorize some of Bahasa Indonesia lines hours before the concert. Xiao S and Barbie laughed because they said they were able to watch the concert on tv. Xiao S said that even if Jerry looked funny, he was still confident. Then Ken asked Ate if it’s difficult to learn tagalog. He asked for an example of a Tagalog word. Ate said that if they’re arriving in the airport, people will greet them with, “MABUHAY!” (Welcome). Barbie copied Ate’s way of speaking but she said it slowly. Then Jerry asked for the tagalog of “WO AI NI” so Ate said, “MAHAL KITA.” Jerry imitated her but without much success sa 2nd word..hehehe. The way he pronounced KITA was the way an American would normally say the word…like KEETA. Ate repeated the word and Ken copied her, saying, “Oh, mahal kita.” He said it so fluently that Ate was impressed. Xiao S reminded them that they’re supposed to leave already but Barbie was still interested to know more. They asked how “GOOD MORNING” is said. Ate said “MAGANDANG UMAGA.” Barbie copied her again but said the words slowly. Ken was impressive again as he said the words straight…like the way a Filipino says it. (Seems that Ken’s really adept at learning languages.) Jerry asked Ken to teach him. He noticed how good Ken is with the language. Then Barbie started to enumerate the new tagalog words she learned then Ken followed her, and so did Jerry. Vic was quiet the whole time. (must have felt tired already). Then the group thanked Ate and her bf. Ken reminded Ate again about the mangoes. They laughed at that. Ate promised to send them the fruits once she gets hold of them from her relatives here. Vic asked why they (F3) still have to look for mangoes when Da S has plenty inside the basket. Jerry quipped that Da S is stingy when it comes to mangoes (Hehehe!) So the night ended with Ate having met and conversed with Jerry, Barbie, Ken, Vic and Xiao S.
